Kovács ‘putting everything in’ to ‘fight consistently for wins’ in Euro RX3
)
Sámuel Kovács is aiming to be ‘a consistent front-runner’ in the FIA European Rallycross Championship’s fiercely-disputed Euro RX3 category this year, as he targets the top of the podium behind the wheel of a car that he ‘truly believes’ can take the fight to the Audis.
Kovács has reached the rostrum in a third of his appearances on the international stage to-date – including, impressively, on his Euro RX3 debut in Sweden in 2024 – but he has thus far only ascended its lowest step. Piloting a Korda Racing-prepared Škoda Fabia, his results propelled him to sixth in the standings as a rookie, before he improved two spots to finish fourth overall in his sophomore campaign in the series.
The Hungarian further enhanced his reputation as a future star by clinching the domestic Super1600 class laurels last year – his second career crown on the national rallycross scene. It is a sure sign of his ambition in the sport that he already wants more...
“My first two seasons in Euro RX3 have been incredibly valuable in terms of learning and experience,” Kovács reflected. “I’ve learnt how to manage race weekends better, how to stay calm under pressure and how important it is to maximise every single heat – and achieving three podium finishes proves we have the pace to fight at the front.

“I feel much more complete and mature as a driver now, and in 2026, we are aiming for a clear step forward and to fight consistently for wins. From what I’ve seen in the driver announcements so far, the field will be very strong and competitive – probably one of the toughest yet – so we know it won’t be easy, but we’re fully motivated for the challenge ahead.”
While Rīga’s Biķernieku trase – which will host the curtain-raising contest on 9-10 May – Mondello Park and Lohéac will all be uncharted territory for the Budapest native, he is eager to get to grips with them and he boasts a strong record at the other three venues on the calendar, having tallied a podium finish apiece at Nyirád, Höljes and Lousada.
“We’ve shown we can be competitive at those tracks, and I always enjoy discovering new circuits and adapting to new challenges,” he enthused. “I’m especially excited about Lohéac. I really like the look of its layout, and with what is expected to be a large and strong entry list, it will be a great opportunity to prove ourselves.
“The next step is clear – to convert our pace into victories. Winning a round in Euro RX3 is never easy, but we believe we are close. With the experience we’ve gained and the work we are putting in, I’m confident we can fight for that top step.”

The Audi A1 has been the dominant force in the category for a number of years, but former French ‘Junior’ champion Dylan Dufas recently expressed his conviction that the all-conquering German hatchbacks are fallible – and Kovács agrees.
“We have shown in the past that with Korda Racing and the Škoda, we can fight the Audis on equal terms,” asserted the 22-year-old, who advanced to the final four times out of five last year – a strike rate bettered only by championship runner-up, Rytis Gurklys.
“There will be no shortage of Audis again this season, but Korda Racing is working at 100 per cent to prepare the car perfectly. At the same time, I am fully committed to my own preparation both physically and mentally, and I truly believe we can not only regularly challenge them, but also beat them.
“Our goal for 2026 is simple – to fight for wins and be a consistent front-runner throughout the season. The whole Korda Racing team is fully behind me, and we are putting everything into this campaign.”
